Proofreading/Light Copyediting Services by Jenn Gruber

My Work
Proofreading is the process of checking written work for errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, typography, and formatting. This includes checking the accuracy of obvious facts, following style guidelines such as the Chicago Manual of Style, and maintaining consistency of the author’s voice. A light copyedit is included in the proofread. Artificial Intelligence has come a long way but in no way replaces the work of a proofreader.
My specialties include both fiction and non-fiction, but my work is not limited to books. I am experienced in scientific research proofreading. Additionally, as a licensed physical therapist, I have a background in medical proofreading and an understanding of medical jargon. As for my own reading habits, I have a love of history, nature, and biographies as well as romance and find I can’t help but notice errors in the books I read for pleasure.
My Rates
Proofreading/light copyedit costs are based on word count of the original document and word processing program used.
Basic Rate (Google Docs, Microsoft Word or Pages): 1 cent per word ($0.01)
Advanced Rate (Acrobat Reader): 1.5 cents per word ($0.015)
My Process
1.
Evaluation
Via email/Google Forms I will assess content (including word count), status of your project, word processing program used, and deadline for the proofread/light copyedit.
2.
Agreement
Book Proofreading: You will receive a letter of agreement and place a nonrefundable deposit of 50% of the proofreading fee.
For all other services, no contract or pre-pay necessary!
3.
Proofread/Light Copyedit
I will go over your work with a fine tooth comb, preferably through GoogleDocs, Microsoft Word or Pages. Acrobat Reader is acceptable for an additional fee. I will follow the Chicago Manual of Style unless otherwise instructed.
4.
Invoice
The final balance will be due upon your receipt of the project and can be paid by Venmo or check.

“Jenn edited my first novel, The Quiet Houses. Her incredible attention to detail, syntax and grammar led to a presentable manuscript which has been purchased for publication by Rowman and Littlefield. I could not be happier with the work provided by Jenn.”
